I can’t stress the importance of fats in your diet enough!
A lot of people think that when they see “LOW FAT!” written on food packaging, that it must be really good for them and that they will lose weight and see fantastic results by eating these products. Well it’s not true; it’s what you call a marketing ploy or rather an opportunity. Companies produce foods that are lower in fat; however what you then
find is they usually have an increased level of sugar, salt or refined foods.
Without going into the complicated stuff, unsaturated fats are good for you. To name a few:
– Protection of internal organs.
– Thermoregulation (Temperature Control).
– Insulation of nerve cells.
– Uptake and storage of fat-soluble vitamins.
– Provide energy.
– Taste.
Good fats are found in or are (remember, in moderation):
– Olive Oil.
– Fish Oil.
– Avocado.
– Rapeseed Oil.
– Peanuts.
– Sesame Seeds.
– Almonds.
– Soybean.
The RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance) for macro nutrients is:
Carbohydrates 55-60%
Fats 30%
Protein 10-15%
Of course this is for your average person, if you are an athlete you will be eating more or less of certain nutrients to achieve your goals.
